This is a lovey place but extremely pricey for what you get. Finding parking for a midsized car was extremely... difficult. There was nothing offered for breakfast other than coffee. One would think, considering the price of the accommodations, that there would be, at the very least, a variety of sweet rolls or something similar. I believe if you’re going to spend this amount of money for a room ($786.00 for three nights) that there would be a continental breakfast included. Also surprising was the added cleaning fee. This is a hotel after all.Why is there a cleaning fee?My room was very small and hot. You do not have the ability to control the temperature in your room. My room was too hot and the room my Daughter occupied was too cold. The lighting in my bathroom was so dim it was difficult to apply my makeup. The tub did not drain well and the toilet was the perfect size for a child. The fan in my Daughters bathroom was connected to the light switch. It was noisy and could not be turned off without turning the light off.Was it worth the price??? I don’t think so!!!read more

Super cute rooms, the common spaces were beautiful although we didn't really use them for our short stay. Parking was... easy for my compact car in the back lot, I could see a bigger vehicle having trouble. We were able to walk into town pretty easily for dinner. We checked in with a code provided with our reservation so we didn't interact with any staff during our stay. The shower was difficult to figure out how to turn on but got hot easily and had good pressure. They provide robes which is very thoughtful. I also like that they have a black towel for people who wear makeup, they had a lot of small thoughtful touches. I wish they had more rooms with two smaller beds as I was travelling with family but we made it work with a shared king, the bed was huge so it was fine. Our room also had a lovely balcony.read more

Had a wonderful time there during my business trip to Kansas City last week. I stayed in the August Meyer room, and it... was very quiet and comfortable, so much so that I slept through a couple of thunderstorms and a tornado, as it passed nearby. As others have noted, the parking spaces behind the home are tiny, so drive a compact or intermediate car if you can, since navigating a larger SUV in and out is very difficult without hitting the other vehicles or the rock retainer walls and protruding AC unit along the narrow drive way. But it is what it is...built for horse and buggy in the old days with the carriage house, and not for modern vehicles. That aside, Southmoreland is now my new go-to lodging for future business trips in KC's downtown cultural and museum district.read more

We had three lovely nights at this inn and were thoroughly impressed! Elegant but still makes you feel right at home. ... Bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed the veranda especially with all its windows over-looking the patio and manicured grounds. So close to the plaza, art museum, restaurants and pubs we could walk to. Staff was especially friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back again!!read more

My husband and I booked a room here last minute when we ended up in KC unexpectedly. The location is perfect for... walking to the Plaza! The room we had was spacious with a comfortable bed. There was a fireplace, but no matches or lighter on hand to light it. The jacuzzi tub was relaxing. Since it’s an old house, the walls and floors are pretty thin, making for quite a bit of noise when other guests were walking above us or talking on the landing. Other than that, our short stay was wonderful and we would recommend it!read more

Stayed at Southmoreland on the Plaza recently and it was my first time at a bed & breakfast-style lodging. The house... was in a great location and the rooms were perfectly cozy, it felt like I was home. We ran into a few other guests one day and everyone was very friendly. I want to try out a few of the other room options as I'm sure they are just as comfortable. Oh, and the bed was the most comfortable bed I've slept in. We even reached out to the team and asked which mattresses and bedding they used so we can replicate it at home. Definitely recommend staying here!read more

We had been to the Southmoreland when it was a B&B and have fond memories. We stayed in the Kelsey Coates room it was... very clean along with the bathroom, we really appreciated that. The fan in the bathroom was very loud and did nothing for the humidity after we showered. We had read in the reviews that there was wine tasting and we were expecting that. My husband thought it was overpriced for a self service hotel. It was a relaxing weekend with a walk to the Nelson and the Plaza for dinner both nights we were there.read more

We stayed in the George Kessler suite in the Carriage House. First - it was exactly as pictured online, perhaps even... better. Quaint, beautiful, well-appointed - the bedding was cozy, crystal glassware and ice bucket with an old-fashioned real silver spoon, a lovely coffee/tea set-up. The bathroom was huge and the jacuzzi tub for 2 was perfect. Best of all though was the responsiveness of the staff when needed - for a self-service hotel, they were still quite available and communicated in advance with me about early check-in, calling me to confirm my special requests, and when we decided on the day of check-out that we just couldn't leave and wanted to stay another day - they handled it immediately. This is a historical home - it's not all 'brand new' quality in terms of carpet, the club chairs had some wear... and it all just added to the charm of our stay. Throwing open the doors to our martini deck and sitting outside enjoying wine in the evening and coffee in the morning was PERFECTION. We had a fire in our small wood-burning stove each night. If you are in KC and want a staycation that truly feels like you have left town and gotten away, this is your spot.read more

Very well located, close to all the entertainment and dining you could ask for. The property is clean, well maintained... and so so very comfortable. It felt like we were in a guest room in a mansion being pampered as opposed to a hotel room.We stayed in the Clara and Russell Stover room, a cute little book gave us interesting facts about the room’s namesakes, attractions like the Nelson Atkins museum of art, the Country Club Plaza and downtown Kansas City in general. The bed was extremely comfy, very nice soft sheets and blankets, none of that scratchy wool hotel blanket stuff here. The bathtub. Oh. The bathtub. It bubbled your day away. I’m 6’5” and a definitely not a small guy and fit in very comfortably (not something I’m accustomed to). We’ll be returning as soon as we can. Fantastic place, easy check in and out process and the staff were absolutely wonderful.read more

We were excited to try Southmoreland this weekend, but we were so disappointed with our experience. Poor parking... (parking lot behind the house was difficult to maneuver), lack of amenities, no staff on hand, poor noise insulation between rooms. Our room was much smaller than we expected it to be. No full length mirror in the room and our coffee maker did not work. For the cost of our stay, it was not worth it. We have stayed at other B & B's and boutique hotels together and this was the most disappointing. I imagine it was better when it was a B & B. We will not be back.read more

The Southmoreland is a Gem! As of Jan. 2nd, 2022, it is a boutique hotel, no food served anymore. Short on Staff. ... However, rooms now have mini-fridge and easy access to dozens of restaurants. Uber Eats, very handy. As for the rest of the place, we have stayed in 5 of the 14 rooms. Each one was uniquely different, but most AWESOMELY! furnished. There are ceiling fans, windows, and extra radiant heaters in each of the rooms we have stayed. As others have said no temp control for individual room has been a problem, we were able to make the room comfortable as needed very easily. The staff members are very Professional. We love this place and is our local "Getaway" location. Parking is best for small cars.read more

What a lovely place the Southmoreland is! My wife and I stayed for 2 days and 3 nights at the beginning of our winter... holiday break. What a great way to get things kicked off. I felt like I was transported back to a more civilized and friendly time in a quaint east coast town. The rooms were very comfortable and nice. The evening Happy Hour and morning continental breakfast were so nice, in the front room with the fireplace. The Southmoreland is in walking distance of the Plaza shops and restaurants so going out with my wife was even more relaxing. I highly suggest looking into a stay here if you need to relax and center yourself after a stressful and busy time. The staff was wonderful and my wife and I had just a lovely time!read more

Beautiful Bed and Breakfast and very nice staff. The room was very nice, however, it was uncomfortably warm and there... was little the staff could do to lower the temperature as the AC was for the whole floor and rooms don’t have the ability to control their own temperature. The room (Col Robert Van Horne) really needed a window AC unit. The staff was very nice when we brought this to their attention but they could only offer another fan, which simply pushed warm air around.read more

The Southmoreland provides a delightful stay for corporate guests with a fantastic rate. I hate staying in hotels so... this was a really great alternative that was even cheaper than a hotel. The Inn is beautiful and the grounds are magnificent! The rooms were very clean. The bed and pillows were comfortable. It was quiet and no street noise or loud city noise. The only thing I heard was the people staying in the room above me on the last night. My only complaint is that in the Carriage house bottom floor suite there is a huge window right above the bed with no shades. It made me a little uncomfortable as there is another building with windows that could see into the room. I would not change clothes any where near the window. If they could include some shades I think that would better. The breakfast during the week was good and I would not really consider this continental as they do, because it was better than anything you would get at a hotel! It was delicious! Since I was traveling for work I was the only one in the dining area because it was so early. It was a great way to start my day!The Inn keeper, I think her name was Emily was so nice and such a delight! She helped me whenever I needed it and answered my questions. It's also a short walk down the street and through a park to the Plaza area. Lots of restaurants and stores to visit.I would highly recommend the Southmoreland to anyone visiting Kansas City!!!read more
