Accommodations: The mansion features a living room with a gas fireplace and wet bar, a dining room with a lengthy wood table, and a sunroom with a porch swing. The veranda, with floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooks the garden in the summer. The ADA accessible room on the first floor boasts solid furnishings in burled walnut and a king-sized bed, along with a two-person Jacuzzi in its bath.
Event Hosting: Southmoreland provides a gracious and comfortable setting for intimate family gatherings, weddings, or corporate events. With spaces like the harvest dining room, sunroom, veranda, and outdoor patio, it can accommodate up to 28 guests for a stayover and up to 40 guests for an onsite event.
Security and Accessibility: The property ensures 24-hour secure access with WiFi-enabled locks on guest entrance doors and interior room doors. Contactless check-in is available for ease and flexibility. An answering service is in place during evenings for concerns and emergencies.
Local Attractions: Situated in the historic Southmoreland neighborhood, the mansion is steps away from renowned attractions such as the Nelson Atkins Art Museum, Kemper Museum for Contemporary Art, and the Kansas City Art Institute. The Plaza Shopping district and Westport are within walking distance.
Transportation: Conveniently located, the property offers a 5-minute walk to the Plaza, a 15-minute walk to Westport, and easy access to all major interstates in the Kansas City area. Uber rides to downtown are minimal, and the property is within 30 minutes of Kansas City International Airport, Arrowhead Stadium, Kauffman Stadium, and other key destinations.
Parking: Limited parking is available in the driveway (14 spaces), and guests are advised to bring compact vehicles. Street parking is typically available.
Additional Information: Individual rooms do not have kitchen access, but a microwave is provided in the dining room for all guests. The property offers the option to rent the entire house (12 rooms) or the entire property (14 rooms) for private events. Note that the ADA accessible room may be subject to relocation if needed for other guests with ADA requirements.
Accessibility Features: The ADA accessible room on the first floor includes features such as first-floor access, a wheelchair ramp to the guest entrance, 34" doorways, a shower/bathtub without a door with a moveable shower stool, a removable shower head, multiple handrails for the bathtub and toilet, and overhead and bedside lamps. While the door keypads currently lack braille notations, efforts are underway to address this.
